Bangalore 17th December

SILICON GRAPHICS INC, the $ 867 million world leader in visual computing has appointed Advanced Synergic Microsystems Limited (ASML) as value-added reseller for the Iris Indigo RISC PCs range in India.

Advanced Synergic will sell the R 3000 PC at a price of around Rs. 10 lakh. It will also sell the R 4000 workstations for around Rs 18 lakh. The R 4000 is a 85 Mips machine while the R 3000 is 33 Mips system. The IRIS Indigo Risc Personal Computer was introduced only last year by Silicon Graphics.

Advanced Synergic will be doing value addition in terms of offering a number of CAD/CAM software in addition to customizing and developing utilities. The company proposes to offer solutions rather than go in for selling mere boxes. The IRIS Indigo is the information technology industry's first high performance RISC personal computer. It will deliver three dimensional graphics, high quality audio and video capabilities.

Advanced Synergic Microsystems will be entering the capital market in March next year, according to Mr. S.Rabindra, director, Advanced Synergic. The public issue is likely to be at par and will fund the Silicon Graphics project as well as the export plans of Advanced Synergic. Mr. S.Rabindra said the issue of merging Synergic systems, an existing software firm run by the same promoters had not yet been decided.

Synergic systems is involved in systems engineering and value added reselling through distributorship of leader hardware and software systems, software development and providing consultation and training for turnkey solutions in CAD/CAM.

Currently, Synergic systems represent some of the leading software firms in the world: Point Control Co, US for the smart CAM manufacturing software, Structural research and analysis Corporation of the Cosmos package and Parametric technology Corp, USA for the "Pro-Engineer" integrated CAD/CAM software.

According to Mr. Sundar, director, Advanced Synergic, the company was involved in value addition in developing translators to integrate the different software packages to suit customer's requirements.
